Chief Inspector Torill Sorte at the Nedre Eiker district police office is now lodging an official complaint against an Englishman who has pestered her for a number of years. One of the Internet newspapers the Englishman often employs is dt.no.

Over the last half a year the man has written defamatory articles in the discussion for a of several Norwegian Internet newspapers, with references to his own homepages, states NRK Buskerud. [Local office of state broadcasting company]

Sorte hopes that by lodging an official complaint against him, she can have him punished.

Has been going on for several years

This case dates back over several years. The harassment through Norwegian Internet newspapers has taken place over the last half year.

The man has been previously found guilty in this country for having harassed another woman in the district. This woman got to know him in England in the 1980's.

She took action against him, and sentence was passed against him. Torill Sorte headed up the investigation into that case, and it was then that she became a victim of his harassments.

He accuses me of having written falsely in the case for which he was sentenced. He maintains that I am dishonest and corrupt, says Torill Sorte to NRK.

Difficult to stop

He uses the discussion for a in order to disseminate advertising for the network. One of the newspapers that is frequently used is Drammens Tidende's Internet edition dt.no.

Sorte says that it is difficult to stop him because he keeps on finding new ways round things.

We have blocked the Internet page, but he keeps on finding new ways of putting it out, so it is difficult to maintain control over such a page, she says to the channel.

The problem with putting a stop to the harassment is that the man does not live in Norway . It makes the task of stopping the man that much more difficult.

Dt.no does something

The Editor, Lars Lager Espevalen at dt.no says that the Englishman has abused the debating function on dt.no and other Internet newspapers for a long time.

We have initiated measures that have made the man's activities more difficult. This has been of importance for us because named individuals have been defamed. We are constantly working on quality assurance in respect of this part of dt.no. During the course of this summer we have already initiated new measures designed to prevent the misuse of the debating function.
